The practice of art includes various subjects, such as the knowledge of art, the skills of creating art and the dialogue throughout the process of exploring artwork. In my art classroom, I want to nurture the abilities that students can apply in their entire life beyond the art class. Those are: (1) experiencing the fun of creating art (2) curiosity (3) the ability of creativity and imagination (4) aesthetic experience (5) the method of expressing thoughts (6) the methods of hearing yourself, and exploring yourself. The outline of the curriculum will be adjusted depends on their current level of development. To sum, I believe that these are the basic abilities to face the unexpected future world.
Implementing My Teaching Philosophy
(1) experiencing the fun of creating art
I believe the most important thing in the learning art is expressing the fun at creating artwork, giving proper prompts to students, let them feel relaxed during the process of creating artwork, then they are willing to spend more time on learning art.
(2) curiosity
The curious is a motivation to inspire student for keeping learning, therefore, I would like to encourage students to ask/ find questions in the class, students can practice and remain curious by asking questions.
(3) the ability of creativity and imagination
Students will use multiple skills and materials to create art works, and encouraging them to try different size and form of work. Giving the students some tips to inspire their ideas. I hope students can have the creativity ability to solve the problem in the future.
(4) aesthetic
(5) the skill of expressing thoughts
Students will learn the methods of appreciate the beauty things, nuturning the sense of aesthetic and experience aesthetic everywhere in our daily lives through the class of discussing the artists’ works.
On the other hand, I will ask some questions to guide students to think, such as, why this work is so important in this age, what’s your thoughts and feeling when you see this piece? Student will learn how to organize their thoughts immediately and express thoughts clearly during the process of discussion.
(6) the methods of hearing yourself, exploring yourself and relieve stress.
The student will be encouraged to write a journal to record their thoughts and emotion during the process of creating work. Moreover, I also encourage students to write their thoughts by analyzing their own work, such as the color, form or structure of work. I believe that creating artwork is a way to learn and to explore yourself more, also a way to relieve stress.
